Description

Mexican Gold Poppy is similar to the California Poppy, smaller but very similar. It is an annual in inland valleys but a short lived perennial in coastal areas. It has a clumping habit, less than a foot tall. It self-propagates in most areas. This evergreen plant has gray leaves that are highly dissected and finely textured. Orange flowers appear in late winter, fading to yellow by spring. It does best in full sun with well-draining soil that is not heavy like clay. Water seeds if winter rains are inconsistent.

Water Saving Tip:

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems.

Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.
