Ceanothus gloriosus 'Anchor Bay'
Anchor Bay Creeping Ceanothus
Description
This shrub, also used as ground cover, can reach 3' high and 4'-6' wide. Foliage is evergreen, dark green, resembling holly leaves with spines. During spring, dark blue flower clusters cover the plant. The shrub has slightly arching branches. This is a great plant for coastal areas, tolerating full sun and salt spray. Deer tend to stay away from this cultivar as the spines discourage browsing. It does best with afternoon shade in warm, inland valleys and additional summer irrigation. It also frost hardy to 15 degrees F. This plant is great for erosion control on hillsides. Butterflies love 'Anchor Bay'.
