Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Nidiformis'
Birdnest Cypress
Description
The cultivar, ‘Nidiformis’ grows to a height of 5 feet or more in 10 years with a spread of 3-5 feet. Is of spreading, flat-topped form with outward spraying branches with dark green foliage. Good for informal screening, hedge, or a showy isolated plant. Prefers a sheltered location, moist, well drained soil. It performs best in areas with cool, moist climates. A root rot caused by Phytophthora lateralis can devastate the tree, but otherwise it is not troubled by disease. Native from southwestern Oregon, to northern California. It is an elegant specimen tree, with many cultivars available.
