Description

Blue Oat Grass is a standout cool season ornamental grass with deep blue foliage. It grows in a clumping shape. Each stemless blade emerges from the ground to create a rounded, sculpted look in the landscape. Long, graceful stems emerge in late spring topped with tan, oat-like seed heads. While we have seen flowering in our climate (North Carolina), blooms are most abundant in cooler climates. ‘Sapphire’ is also known by its German name, ‘Saphirsprudel’, or by another translation, ‘Sapphire Fountain’—all are the same plant. Prefers full sun and well-drained locations and can be grown in containers. This Blue Oat Grass cultivar is reported to have improved resistance to rust.

Water Saving Tip:

Replace turf with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs.

If you have areas where no one uses the grass, patches that do not grow well, or a turf area too small to water without runoff, consider replacing the turf with water-efficient landscaping.
