Description
Evergreen shrub, multi-stemmed, compact, 6-12 ft tall. Leaves are opposite, simple, evergreen, tiny, oval, base rounded or wedge-shaped, and tip pointed. Flowers are tubular, waxy, white with some pink, in tight clusters (panicles) and tiny. Fruit somewhat spherical, red and maturing to black, not persistent. Sun to part shade. Little to moderate irrigation needed. Often used as a hedge or screen. Does best in fertile, moist, well-draining soil. Do not let soil dry out. Will tolerate clay soil and coastal conditions.
