Botanical name:Melianthus major

Melianthus major is an evergreen shrub. Soft-wooded plant of rapid growth to 12-14 ft. Boldly patterned foliage. Grayish green leaves of 1 ft. long, divided into 9-11 strongly toothed leaflets. Foliage smells disagreeable when brushed or bruised. Foot-long spikes of reddish brown, 1 in. flowers in late winter, early spring.

This hardy perennial is a useful, old-time garden plant with coarse, woolly gray/green, wrinkled leaves and yellow, 1" flowers in ball-shaped whorls. It handles drought and poor soils but needs full sun.

Botanical name:Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo'

Diablo Purple Ninebark is a small, dense upright shrub. The foliage a burgundy red. It is a great accent plant because of its foliage color. One of the best performing yellow foliage plants for alkaline soils. Needs full sunlight. -Fort Collins Nursery
