Ghost Plant

Common name:Ghost Plant
Botanical name:Graptopetalum paraguayense

Ghost plant is an unusually colored small succulent from Mexico with 3 to 6 inch wide rosettes. The range of color is part of the great charm of this plant. The color ranges from pale blue, light pink, to light purple. The plant multiplies rapidly and is easy to propogate. In spring, it has white flowers that have small red touches. It does well in full sun to light shade and prefers well-drained soil. Irrigate infrequently to occasionally although it does not like wet feet so good drainage is critical if watering regularly.

Deer Grass

Common name:Deer Grass
Botanical name:Muhlenbergia rigens

The deer grass is a warm season perennial that forms dense clumps from the base. The spike like flower stalks grow 2-3 ft. tall and this grass has striking foundation form. The deer grass is native to California, is drought tolerant, and is a beneficial insect plant. -Cornflower Farms

Blue Spire Russian Sage

Common name:Blue Spire Russian Sage
Botanical name:Perovskia 'Blue Spire'

This popular plant will grow to 2-3' and has fragrant, grayish leaves accented by lavender/blue flowers that bloom from March through Summer. Cut back through dormancy in winter.

Blue Gem Westringia

Common name:Blue Gem Westringia
Botanical name:Westringia 'Blue Gem'

This evergreen shrub will grow 3'-6' high and 6'-8' wide and has lavender flowers that bloom from winter through spring. It is drought tolerant and does well in full sun or partial shade. A more compact and showier selection that produces masses of luminous bluish purple flowers in spring and often lightly year-round. Perfect in tough spots; performs in sun, harsh inland heat or rugged coastal exposures, with minimal watering or care. Great in natural form, or shear into a low formal hedge. Evergreen.

Walker's Low Catmint

Common name:Walker's Low Catmint
Botanical name:Nepeta racemosa 'Walker's Low'

This vigorous growing perennial reaches 1'-1.5' tall and spreads 2'. It will reseed and spread if spent flowers are NOT removed. Foliage is fragrant when brushed (ask any cat), with scalloped edges and covered with fine hairs. Beautiful violet blue, 2 lipped flowers bloom in summer and fall. This plant tolerates full to part sun with well draining, dry soil. It does not tolerate humidity. It is an annual in desert areas. Low to moderate water once it's established.

Silver Spurge

Common name:Silver Spurge
Botanical name:Euphorbia rigida

Silver Spurge is a semi upright shrub that will reach 2' high and 3' wide at maturity. It has attractive blue-green, lance shaped leaves configured in spirals around the upright stems. In late winter and spring, at the branch tips sprout small green flowers with showy chartreuse-yellow bracts. In time, they turn reddish giving the garden two colors for the price of one. Plant in full to part sun in a soil that drains well if you can but it will tolerates other soil conditions fairly well.

Soils and Compost:

Maintain a two to four inch layer of mulch on the soil surface to reduce weeds, infiltrate rain water, and reduce compaction.

Integrated Pest Management:

Attract, or buy beneficial insects such as ladybugs and lacewings to control pest outbreaks in your garden.
